The biodegradable plastic industry looks forward to stronger support
This year's government work report proposes to strengthen the recycling of waste and vigorously promote the use of recycled materials. As an ideal substitute for traditional plastics, biodegradable plastics have received widespread attention worldwide in recent years, and their market size continues to grow.
In recent years, China's biodegradable plastic industry has achieved good results, with a total production capacity of 1.96 million tons and a production of about 400000 tons in 2024. The total output value of raw materials and products is about 13 billion yuan.
Biodegradable plastics are materials that can be decomposed by microorganisms in the natural environment. The raw materials are mostly sourced from renewable resources such as starch, cellulose, etc. Compared with traditional petroleum based plastics, they have significant environmental advantages.
China attaches great importance to the development of the biodegradable plastic industry and has introduced a series of supportive policies. These policies not only provide financial support and tax incentives for the research and production of biodegradable plastics, but also promote the formation and improvement of related industrial chains.
Member Wang Jiangping suggested that departments such as development and reform, science and technology, finance, ecological environment, and taxation should strengthen policy support. For example, through channels such as national science and technology major projects and national key research and development plans, support should be provided for the research and development of key projects on biodegradable plastics; Intensify government procurement support, promote centralized procurement by governments at all levels and large state-owned units, and take the lead in using biodegradable plastic products; Include the biodegradable plastic industry in the national voluntary greenhouse gas emission reduction trading market and explore carbon trading.
